We rebuild tropical fisheries with coastal communities
Blue Ventures is a marine conservation organisation that puts people first. We support coastal fishers in remote and rural communities to rebuild fisheries, restore ocean life and build lasting pathways to prosperity. Our work began two decades ago in Madagascar’s remote coastal communities and is growing globally. Across a dozen countries, we’re partnering with traditional fishers and community organisations to design, scale, strengthen and sustain fisheries management and conservation at the community level. We bring partners together in networks to advocate for reform and share tools and best practices to support fishing communities across the globe.
Summary job description
Blue Ventures is seeking a dynamic and experienced Chair of the Board of Trustees to lead our mission of rebuilding tropical fisheries with coastal communities. This pivotal role involves providing strategic leadership and oversight, ensuring all activities align with our vision of thriving fishers and thriving oceans. You will be instrumental in fostering an inclusive board culture, driving effective governance, and building a strong, constructive relationship with our CEO. The Chair will also play a crucial role in financial stewardship and act as a key ambassador, representing the charity's values to external stakeholders. We are looking for an inspiring leader with a proven track record in non-profit governance, strategic planning, and a deep commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. Join us in making a tangible impact on marine conservation and community empowerment globally.
We currently have eight trustees on our board and three established subcommittees. One is tasked with overseeing our People and Culture function, one looks after our Finance, Risk, and Audit area and the other is the Safeguarding Reporting Committee. All three are populated with trustees who are experts in their respective fields.
We have set up a new sub-committee, the programme subcommittee, to address our core mission: supporting coastal communities in rebuilding fisheries and restoring ocean life.
