We rebuild tropical fisheries with coastal communities
Blue Ventures is a marine conservation organisation that puts people first. We support coastal fishers in remote and rural communities to rebuild fisheries, restore ocean life and build lasting pathways to prosperity. Our work began two decades ago in Madagascar’s remote coastal communities and is growing globally. Across a dozen countries, we’re partnering with traditional fishers and community organisations to design, scale, strengthen and sustain fisheries management and conservation at the community level. We bring partners together in networks to advocate for reform and share tools and best practices to support fishing communities across the globe.
Summary job description
This is a high-stakes leadership opportunity to be the architect of Blue Ventures' strategic expansion across East Africa (Kenya, Tanzania, Mozambique). You will be a crucial force in translating the organisation’s mission into regional impact, leading the charge to scale community-powered conservation and contribute measurably to its ambitious 2030 strategy.
The successful candidate will be a transformative force, directly owning the regional contribution to several critical Key Performance Indicators within the global network. They will spearhead the expansion of the Partner Network, directly influencing the overarching organisational goal to support 400 civil society organisations globally, and driving the exponential growth required to reach 5 million people across the entire network by 2030. It will also involve a measurable contribution to placing 200,000 km² of coastal seas under the effective stewardship of fisheries communities.
In East Africa, these targets will translate to 650,000 people, 2000 communities and 50,000 Km² of coastal seas under community-led stewardship.
Beyond growth, the role ensures strategic alignment by focusing on the four systemic enablers of the Blue Ventures Strategy 2030:
Funding: Directing resources and technical assistance to catalyse partner success.
Data: Community-owned data platforms to provide data on fisheries for purposes of decision-making.
Training: Fostering a culture of collaboration, equipping partners with the latest tools and best practices for managing coastal resources.
Advocacy: Leading the expansion of national and regional networks to build a community of practice that elevates partner voices in policy spaces.
Ultimately, the Head of Partnership Network will lead the process of identifying, onboarding, and stewarding high-impact, long-term partnerships with community-based organisations. This requires exceptional networking and leadership skills to drive continuous improvement, ensuring the regional network's sustained success.
